2021 Recipient

The 2021 Association of Consulting Engineering Companies - Saskatchewan (ACEC-SK) Young Professional Award recipient is Cosme Loi, EIT.

Cosme was born and raised in Macau, China, and because of the Portuguese settlement in the 16th century, he was raised in a very multicultural environment. He is fluent in Cantonese, English, and Portuguese. In 2005 Cosme's family moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from China. After graduating from high school in 2009, he followed his brother’s footsteps and joined the College of Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan to begin his studies and eventual career as an Electrical Engineer.

Throughout university and following graduation Cosme has been an active volunteer member with the IEEE.  During his time as a student, he was appointed as the Social Director with the IEEE Student Branch, where he organized social and professional development events to help connect students with professors.

In 2015, he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation, he started his career at Saskatoon Light & Power as an Underground Power Line Locator before moving internally to a Utility Worker position. After hands-on experience in this industry, he decided to continue his professional journey in the consulting engineering industry.

In 2017, he became a Junior Engineer at Primary Engineering & Construction. During the pandemic in 2020, he joined CIMA+ to work in Power Distribution Design. He is currently working towards earning his Project Management Professional designation (PMP).

Cosme Loi is passionate about engineering and people, and this shows in all facets of his work and the relationships he creates. In the short time that Cosme has been with CIMA+, he took it upon himself to create an employee onboarding dashboard, complete with tutorial videos for new employees. This has proved invaluable to enhancing the new employee’s experience, as well as improving the efficiency of the team.

Cosme’s project management skills are phenomenal for someone so young in his career. He regularly oversees a large volume of design projects while mentoring new employees at the same time. His passion for mentoring and creating connections with people has proven him to be an emerging leader for CIMA+, and he consistently delivers his projects within the approved scope, budget, and schedule.
