ACEC-SK on Parliament Hill

ACEC-SK Chair Jeffrey Halliday and Executive Director Beverly MacLeod were in Ottawa for 4 days to attend national association meetings as well as hear industry updates from renowned industry and client leaders.   In addition, ACEC-SK representatives participated in “Hill Day”, an industry lobbying day where consulting engineers had access to MPs.

Formal meetings included a half day Management Meeting where leaders of all provincial and territorial associations exchanged information about successes in various jurisdictions, and an all-day ACEC-Canada Board meeting where current industry and association challenges were discussed.  In addition, ACEC-SK Young Professionals Chair, Tyson Smith, and the 2014 Young Professional Award recipient, Eleah Gallagher, attended the Young Professionals Network meeting that always infuses new ideas and energy that is brought back to our province to support Saskatchewan’s YPs.

A full day Leadership Conference provided insight regarding upcoming industry challenges and opportunities. Meetings with MPs were also arranged for ACEC-SK representatives, including with Kevin Waugh, MP for Saskatoon-Grasslands.  Your Saskatchewan representatives continued to make the case that large mega-transit projects are not the only candidates for smart infrastructure investment.  Our province’s economic growth also depends on water and utility infrastructure growth.  The Saskatchewan delegation also emphasized how Qualifications-Based Selection provides the best value for taxpayers.

The culmination of the trip was the Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards Gala. A total of 25 awards were presented to consulting engineering firms across Canada for their work on projects that connect communities, improve safety and enhance the quality of life in Canada and around the world.
