ACEC SK and SGG Host Limit States Design - Foundations Seminar
The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies of Saskatchewan (ACEC SK) and the Saskatoon Geotechnical Group (SGG) hosted a full day seminar titled Limit States Design - Foundations on April 6, 2017. The seminar was an exceptional day focused on the evolution of geotechnical and foundation design practices from working stress design to limit states design practices.
Dr. Dennis Becker, Ph. D., FEIC, FCAE, P. Eng. has been extensively involved in the development and implementation of Limit States Design for foundations within various Canadian Codes and Guideline documents. His broad and fulsome understanding of Limit States Design was on full display as he outlined key differences between working stress and limit states design as well as highlighting the advantages and key components of reliability based design methods. Dr. Bruce Sparling, Ph. D., P. Eng., FCSCE and Mr. Greg Gelleta, P. Eng. added structural and contractor perspectives to the Limit States Design approach and the day concluded with a lively forum discussion.
The seminar was attended by over 80 members of the structural design, geotechnical and foundation construction community. The event was a huge success and provided a valuable service to members of both associations.
