Paul Machibroda, P.Eng., P.Geo., FCSCE has been named the 2016 recipient of the prestigious Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Meritorious Achievement Award.

Paul Machibroda was born and raised on a farm in Venlaw, Manitoba and attended the University of Saskatchewan, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

Paul provided consulting engineering services in Western Canada for more than 45 years with B.B. Torchinsky and Associates Ltd until the mid-1970s, when he formed his own consulting engineering company:  P. Machibroda Engineering Ltd.

The scope of his work covered a broad spectrum including mining, dams, and irrigation projects; industrial, commercial, institutional, residential, and recreational developments.   

Mr. Machibroda was the design engineer for the Blackstrap Ski Hill facility, which was constructed for the 1971 Canadian Winter Games.  He mentored numerous engineers during his many years as an engineering consultant.  Also, he provided expert witness services for civil and geotechnical engineering-related court cases.

The distinction of Fellow was conferred on Paul by the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers in 1995.  He received the Saskatoon Geotechnical Achievement Award in 1997 from the Saskatoon Geotechnical Group, and in 2014, he received the Saskatchewan Geotechnical Pioneer Award from The Canadian Geotechnical Society.

Mr. Machibroda was a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists. He was also involved in community groups such as the Ukrainian Museum of Saskatchewan, Knights of Columbus, and Rotary International Clubs of Saskatoon.

Sadly, Paul passed away in October of 2015 at the age of 80.  He was survived by his wife Frances, and their 4 children and 8 grandchildren.
