Letter from new 2017-2018 Chair

I am honored to serve as ACEC-SK’s Chair for the 2017-2018 fiscal year. I would like to give a special thank you to our incoming and outgoing Board members, and specifically recognize our 2016-2017 Chairman, Jeffrey Halliday, P. Eng., for his service and dedication to this organization.  Thanks also to our dedicated staff and the countless volunteers throughout the organization who enable us all to accomplish our goals.

It is amazing how quickly time seems to tick by in our fast paced, integrated and connected lives.  What makes me most aware of the increasing speed of time is the pace of change.  In all facets of life, change is the single constant.  The consulting engineering industry in particular is changing faster, and in larger ways, than ever before.  Project delivery models, procurement practices, insurance, contract language, taxation, all recent examples of the pace of change.  Or maybe I’m just getting old.

As we move into the next year, I find myself uncertain of what the main focus of my tenure will be.  A bit of an unsettling thought, but in our ever changing environment we must be willing and able to respond to the issues that arrive at our door.  If recent history serves as an example, new issues will come knocking and we will need to respond and advocate on behalf of our industry and partners.

I take comfort in the knowledge that the members of this association are some of the most talented and capable businesses and individuals anywhere in the world.  No matter the change, I am confident that our members can, and should, be at the table to chart the course forward.

My goal is to ensure we have a seat at the table.  We have the experience and know-how to benefit our clients, our partners and the people of our great Province.  Change will not wait or slow down.  We must embrace it and, more importantly, shape it wherever possible to the benefit of all.

Sincerely,
Paul Walsh, P.Eng.
