Derelict Buildings Pilot Project is Underway
The Derelict Buildings Pilot Project commenced on November 1, 2025, to assist eligible municipalities in the removal of municipally owned derelict buildings.
The Ministry of Environment has been in contact with all municipalities that are eligible to participate in the pilot project.
Any demolition of a building that is not part of the pilot project remains subject to construction standards and will require permits, inspections, and safe removal and disposal of any hazardous materials and proper disposal of all demolition materials.
You can find more information on the demolition of derelict buildings here: https://www.saskatchewan.ca/residents/environment-public-health-and-safety/municipally-owned-derelict-buildings.
For further information about the pilot project, or to discuss your municipality’s eligibility, please contact the project team at the Ministry of the Environment at derelict.buildings@gov.sk.ca.
