Tribute to Stephen Gregory "Greg" Daum, P.Eng.

Stephen Gregory "Greg" Daum, P.Eng.

1948 - 2020

It is with deep sadness that the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Saskatchewan (ACEC-SK) announces the passing of a recent ACEC-SK Board Director, Greg Daum, P.Eng.

Greg operated a consulting practice – Greg Daum Consulting Ltd. – in Saskatchewan for many years, primarily delivering professional electrical engineering services to SaskPower. His knowledge and experience was recognized and sought after by all levels, and his influence was wide-ranging, from mentoring new employees, influencing line managers right up to having coffee with the CEO of SaskPower.

Greg embraced the notion of process improvement, and he profoundly believed the way to achieve this was through continuous dialogue. He facilitated dialogue between ACEC-SK and SaskPower, and played an integral role in realizing a valuable member service - the annual ACEC-SK Forum with SaskPower. His keen interest to learn about the challenges faced by all consultants led him to be an active member of ACEC-SK’s Industry/Resources Committee for several years prior to allowing his name to stand as a candidate for ACEC-SK’s Board of Directors. He acted as a Director for two years before discontinuing his consulting practice. He was motivated to do be on the Board to share important information about the value of consultants with politicians.

His ability to mentor was second-to-none. His willingness to volunteer to do small tasks, like setting up our Road Show display at events, was unwavering. He committed with his whole heart, and we are ever-grateful that he chose to commit to our association. He stopped by the Association office whenever he was in the neighbourhood to find out about the latest initiatives being contemplated, offered insight with wit and humour, and always offered to help wherever he could.

ACEC-SK appreciated his many contributions. He will be missed.
