January 28, 2025. SASKATOON, SK. – The NewFields’ engineering team in Canada is pleased to announce it is now operating as NewFields Canada Inc., under a new ownership team. Previously a component of NewFields Companies, the new firm will continue to be led by Leon Botham, now President of NewFields Canada Inc. The new ownership team includes partners Leon Botham, Erin Moss Tressel, Tyrel Lloyd, and associate, Justin Desjardins, as proud leaders in the new engineering firm.
In light of the recent acquisition of the NewFields environmental team, the timing was right to create a Canadian engineering firm that offers mine planning, design, construction, operational, closure and reclamation services, in a tight knit, globally renowned team of engineers and scientists. The new firm is designed to create an alternative to large engineering firms in the mining industry, developing a people-first culture, and the ability to bring innovation in engineering to life, in a manner rarely possible in larger consulting firms. The intention is to offer mining firms greater flexibility and creativity in meeting their project goals from a social, environmental, and financial perspective.
“I am honoured to be a founding partner, and the first president of NewFields Canada Inc.” explains Botham. “Thanks to the support of our clients, colleagues, and families, the new leadership team is excited to launch an independent company, continuing to create world-class engineering solutions with forward-thinking mining companies across Canada, and around the globe.”
During this transition, all of the nearly 30 technical experts and support staff have remained with the organization, excited to continue their work, serving the global mining industry. With over 35 years of geotechnical engineering, water resource management, and sustainable project development and decommissioning expertise, the team is well positioned to continue to support current and new clients looking to build business while supporting a sustainable planet. In continuing to carry the NewFields’ name forward, the firm will also continue to work with their global NewFields’ colleagues.
