2020 Recipient

The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies - Saskatchewan's 2020 recipient of the Brian Eckel Memorial Scholarship is Minh Au, a third-year University of Saskatchewan student pursuing a dual degree in Engineering Physics and Computer Science.

Throughout her university years, she has sought to volunteer her effort in the university community and beyond.

Most notably, she is currently President of SaskInvent, a USask student group dedicated to design and innovation in the field of biomedical engineering. In her role, she is leading the group to adapt to the current COVID-19 situation while maintaining a supportive multidisciplinary environment for students to learn and thrive in.

Under her leadership, it is her goal that SaskInvent continues to allow students an opportunity to do hands-on projects collaboratively, which promotes technical skills in many engineering and computer science areas as well as develops the communications and people skills necessary for future professionals.

Minh has had a critical role in bringing PennyDrops to University of Saskatchewan. PennyDrops is a national financial literacy non-profit organization. Noting the lack of financial preparedness in both university and high school students, in 2019 Minh along with her friends started a Saskatchewan chapter with the goal of promoting financial knowledge. They have thus far successfully organized financial education workshops for three different high schools and are planning to host university workshops virtually this academic year. As the Vice President of Marketing, she spearheaded the effort to increase their visibility through social media and on-campus recruitment methods. Minh use the available platforms to bring financial knowledge to as many students as possible with the goal of helping students prepare to handle their own money.

Minh has many areas of interests and thinks it is of importance to tackle various problems in any way possible.
