Real Benefits

The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Saskatchewan (ACEC-SK) feels compelled to respond to recent media and political coverage alluding to increased use and “high costs” of consultants.

Saskatchewan has enjoyed rapid growth over the last decade, with a corresponding increase in infrastructure needs and investment.  Both the public and private sectors chose the consulting engineering industry to respond immediately to this growth because, alone, they do not have sufficient staff to undertake significantly increased workloads.

The use of consulting engineers is a widely practiced and accepted business delivery model world-wide.  It offers organizations an ability to quickly adjust capacity in response to the volume of projects undertaken, and efficiencies because they do not have to maintain staff at unnecessarily high levels to accommodate peak work periods.

Consulting engineers and geoscientists serve as trusted advisors to society on the planning, development and management of our natural and built environment. Consultants bring highly specialized technical expertise, an outside business perspective, and experience from working with other clients facing similar challenges, all of which translate into cost effective and innovative solutions.

ACEC-SK supports a balanced, transparent use of consulting and public service engineering professionals.  Each contributes in a different way to delivering high quality, and cost effective infrastructure projects.

Consulting engineering companies in Saskatchewan employ over 2000 professional, technical and support staff living in Saskatchewan who proudly work to advance our province. They indirectly contribute approximately $2 billion annually to Saskatchewan’s economy.
