ACEC-SK Defends Value of Using Consulting Engineering Services

Throughout March and into April, some councillors at the City of Saskatoon expressed aloud their concerns about the value of using consulting engineering services versus using in-house engineering expertise.  Subsequent to this, the City’s Chief Financial Officer wrote an open letter to the citizens of Saskatoon published in the Star Phoenix highlighting the advantages of engaging consulting engineering professional services.  However, City staff was still directed to write a report that will be brought before City Council that outlines how Saskatoon benefits from the continued use of our members’ services.

In the interim ACEC-SK provided further documentation outlining the value-add consulting engineering services bring to clients, and concurrently an ACEC-SK Board representative paved the way for an opportunity to present at the City in response to the report being written by the City.  ACEC-SK expects to be able to respond to the City’s report in July.
