The 2015 Brian Eckel Memorial Scholarship Award recipient is Lance Pitka.

Lance Pitka is an electrical engineering student at the University of Saskatchewan in his final year of undergraduate studies. Lance grew up in Regina and moved to Saskatoon in 2012 to pursue an engineering degree. Upon graduating high school, Lance was awarded two very prestigious university entrance scholarships including the Schulich Leaders Award and the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award.

Outside of class, Lance is currently very involved with the university. He is the Vice-President of the student group SaskInvent which focuses on designing new or improved medical technologies, including 3D printing of an anatomically correct brain. He is an executive on the IEEE student branch; specifically the Robotics Club Director and electrical team lead of the University of Saskatchewan Aero-Design team. Lance enjoys competing in engineering design competitions. He is heading to Kelowna to represent the U of S for a third straight year in the Western Engineering Competition.

As a break from school, Lance enjoys playing a variety of sports including basketball, football and golf. He also competes in power lifting competitions.

Lance is graduating in April 2016 and is considering continuing with graduate studies next fall in the field of digital signal processing.
