Donald H. George, P.Eng. has been named the 2015 recipient of the prestigious Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Meritorious Achievement Award.

Don was born and raised in Saskatoon. He received his B. Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in 1981.  He began his career at AECOM and is now Marketing and Sales Director, Saskatchewan and Manitoba Divisions for Associated Engineering.

Over his 34 year career Don has been involved in an impressive list of projects including the installation of 3500km of underground cable and 2400 services during SaskPower’s Rural Underground Electrical Distribution. Don designed and managed SaskEnergy’s Rural Gas project, installing over 5300km of pipeline, giving Saskatchewan’s rural residents access to natural gas supply.  He led the team that designed Canada's national synchrotron light source facility at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, SK. From water distribution to wastewater collection and storm drainage, from land development to natural gas and electrical distribution systems, he has left his mark on the province’s crucial, but often unseen infrastructure.

As his career progressed, Don assumed increased leadership responsibilities and senior management positions.  An exceptional communicator and listener, he created strong professional relationships where mutual trust and respect built long term success.  He developed a working environment that produced the highest staff retention rate with the lowest turnover rate in Western Canada.  Don and his teams had the highest percentage of repeat work and sole source work from Clients in Western Canada.

Don served on the ACEC-SK Board for 4 years, including the role of Chair in 1998-1999. He served on numerous ACEC-SK Committees, including Consultant Selection, Communications and currently is the Chair of the Risk Mitigation Committee.

He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) serving as a volunteer on the Investigation Committee for five years (Chair in 2004-2006) and currently is a member of the Discipline Committee.

Don has also been actively involved in community associations, having served on the volunteer board of the Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation for 12 years and was Chair of the Foundation in 2009-2010. In addition, he is a current member and past president of the Saskatoon USADIAN Executive Association, a long standing business leads association in Saskatoon.

Don’s main interests outside of work include spending time with his Shauna, their 3 married children and four grandchildren.  He is also a sports enthusiast and avid golfer.
